I am spefically interested in Project Based Learning (PBL) which incorporates projects that have real-world applications. PBL prepares students for the real world by asking them to solve real problems or answer complex problems while working cooperatively with their peers. PBL helps students get ready to take on the challeges they will face as adults.

Such an important area to address, Johna! As 21st century learners and digital learners, our students learn differently than we do because their brains are wired differently than ours. So our teaching methods must adapt to their learning profile. Engaging students through project-based learning and authentic learning are effective ways of engagement recognizing and validating what students know, want to learn and how students problem-solve achieving their goals in the process.
ReplyDeleteVery powerful.
Socratic Seminars are also an effective engagement to add to project-based learning. Stephanie Jaquez's research about Socratic practice may guide you as well as Michael Strong's (https://www.amazon.com/Habit-Thought-Socratic-Seminars-Practice/dp/0944337392) Habit of Mind. A majority of adults cannot engage in a Socratic seminar effectively or civilly! Another beautiful reason why students need opportunities to practice listening and speaking in conversation together respectfully.
Thank you, Johna!
